I am happy to support the brainstorming, outlining, writing, and revision of personal statements for graduate school applications. I do not provide brainstorming support for law or medical school applications, though will offer general writing feedback on statements that are mostly complete. My rates for this service begin at $50/hour, with discounts available for multiple sessions.

Writing is only sustainable in community! And selfishly I love sharing space with amazing writers. I host monthly generative writing workshops, alternating between in-person (in Brooklyn) and virtual offerings to increase accessibility. Workshops are open to writers of all-levels and genres — I ask that all attendees come ready & willing to read lots of poetry. Workshops are 90 minutes with a focus on community-building, literary analysis, and generative writing prompts. The cost of attendance is $20, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Let’s write!
Pedagogy
Story-telling as liberation
Writing is political! I believe firmly in story-telling, -holding, and -sharing as key to our collective liberation. Because of this, all my teaching is informed by an anti-oppressive, anti-colonial, and liberation-oriented lens. I am always holding the macro forces that impact our relationships to our hi/stories and encourage my students to do the same.
Play, pleasure, & compassion
Our voices can only flourish in nurturing environments. I reject that idea that the workshop space cannot also be kind and enjoyable. Any feedback I provide will be rooted in an inherent value of your voice and story, in the hopes that you will build a similar relationship to your work. I will always encourage you to play and discover.
Process-oriented
Capitalism will tell you the only way to be a “writer” is to write everyday and be published. While these can certainly be goals, they cannot be the only goal. Be it from a love of language, a pull towards an exciting poem, or the way your body feels when you write a juicy sentence. I wish for my students to uncover the joy of the writing process itself. The rest will follow.
Writing as an extension of the mind-body connection
In the end, I am a therapist …. No, but seriously: writing can only happen to the extent that your body and mind are tended to. My teaching approach is holistic and encouraging of your personal somatic awareness and overall care. When cared for, I find that our bodies often lead us in the right direction.
